The Most Insta-Worthy Captions from Taylor Swift’s 'Lover '
Updated: Sep 21
Love her or hate her, Taylor Swift is back with a new album. The pop-star’s seventh studio album Lover dropped August 23rd and like Swift says, “it’s a celebration of love, in all its complexity, coziness, and chaos." This era is dazzling and full of color, an emergence from her dark reputation times. Listening to the album, you can’t help but tell that 2019 Taylor Swift is the most liberated and free she’s ever been. In the opener she sings “I forgot that you existed. It isn’t love, it isn’t hate, it’s just indifference.”
However, don’t let the dreamy-ness of this album confuse you - she dives head on into uncharted territory. Although "ME!" and "You Need to Calm Down" left many underwhelmed, Lover proves once again that Swift very rarely releases her best hits as promotional singles. From her mother’s ongoing cancer battle in "Soon You'll Get Better" (“And I hate to make this all about me, but who am I supposed to talk to? What am I supposed to do, if there’s no you.”) to "The Archer" ("I cut off my nose just to spite my face, then I hate my reflection for years and years. "), this album still has the raw, diary-entry-like songwriting that Swift is notorious for. Here’s a list of the most Instagram-caption worthy lyrics along with a glimpse into Swift’s celebration of feelings!
“I’d be a fearless leader, I’d be an alpha type”
This one is for all the powerful gals out there. In The Man, Swift calls out double standards when it comes to dating, success and her career. She plays with the idea of perception, not necessarily changing the decisions she's made, but rather how her choices would be interpreted if she was a man. I think the bridge of the song pretty much sums it up.
“My heart’s been borrowed and yours has been blue. All’s well that ends well to end up with you”
Taylor Swift is in LOVE love. The title track is one of Swift’s most powerful love ballads. Suddenly we’re all stuck in a pink daze, slow dancing with our significant other.
“I don’t wanna keep secrets just to keep you”
Cruel Summer sounds like something straight out of a movie. Written about that post Kimye-feud summer when Swift disappeared, the vocals transport you to riding down a highway, wind in your hair, flashing lights passing you by. This secret summer fling might be destined to end but Swift is willing to stick around for the thrill. You’ll definitely find yourself belting out the second half of this song.
“Darling, you’re the one I want”
This infectious, feel-good love song is a classic, sure to have you bopping your head. The song includes wedding references, a theme present through out the album that has many thinking she secretly got married. If dancing around on a sunny day had a soundtrack, this would be on it.
“Voted most likely to runaway with you”
"Miss Americana & The Heartbreak Prince"
This dark, moody track is set in high school and emphasizes that we never really leave the ‘he said, she said’ chatter of high school. The echo of “go, fight, win” in the bridge is a nice touch, Swift really takes you back to a high school football game. Luckily, she found her ride-or-die that’s willing to see her for who she is.
“I wanna be defined by the things that I love”
In the album closer "Daylight", Swift really emerges from the darkness. She acknowledges that she’s loved, she’s lost, she’s been the bad guy, but that she’s also grown.
Plus a few more of our favs:
"Babe, don’t threaten me with a good time” ("London Boy")
“Wanna see what’s under that attitude” ("I Think He Knows")
“The good ones never wait” ("I Think He Knows")
“He’s so obsessed with me and boy, I understand” ("I Think He Knows")
“Devils roll the dice, angels roll their eyes” ("Cruel Summer")
“I get mystified how this city screams your name” ("Cornelia Street")
“Daring you to leave me just so I can try and scare you” ("False God")
"Meet me in the afterglow” ("Afterglow")
