Solo Trips: Why They're Necessary for the Soul

Updated: Sep 21

If there's anything you should do once in your lifetime, it's to take a trip by yourself. Yes, you read that right. Alone. No one tagging along, just you. There are many reasons why traveling is good for your mental health, but traveling solo is even better for your overall character growth. It’s an experience that you will never forget and one that will shape you in a way you never knew was possible. If you're still second-guessing that solo trip you have planned, these reasons alone should reassure you that your soul needs this.

1. Stress-Relieving

With the stress of work and the routine of your everyday life, it is important to take a step back from it all. If you are constantly grinding, you might end up feeling burned out. Take a solo trip - you won't have to wait for anyone to get ready or make decisions, you can go ahead and do whatever activities you want to do. Taking a vacation with a group can actually lead to even more stress! Being alone means having as much time as you want to truly relax and recharge. The alone time can induce happiness and serenity that is much-needed after a busy routine.

2. Self Discovery

When you are alone, you have the potential to discover so many new things about yourself that you didn’t know. There will be situations that require you to get out of your comfort zone, therefore, pushing you to grow your character. You will have to make decisions and be forced to reflect on those choices. When you are by yourself on a trip, you can discover things that interest you, or learn what you don’t like. You shape your own values when you aren’t conforming to the people around you.

3. Happiness Booster

According to an article by Microsoft News, traveling gives people a more positive outlook on their health and general quality of life. Learning about different cultures and watching the way other people live their lives can push us to think outside of our little bubbles and change our perspective. It puts us in a place of gratitude rather than greed. We can see that what we have is enough and that the world is much bigger than the problems we hold, which can definitely lead us to happiness after returning from vacation.

4. Mental Resilience

Tackling problems and overcoming difficulties while traveling by yourself will strengthen your mental resilience. By making these choices alone and overcoming these problems, you will learn that you can take care of anything that comes your way! A solo trip takes life up a notch - you will discover that life doesn't have to be boring or stressful or normal, as long as you keep moving forward. Many things can happen on a trip by yourself, but you just have to keep rolling with it. You will get better at problem-solving, find your ability to think quickly and become stronger mentally.

Traveling is a necessity for everyone. It shapes you as a person and allows you to better understand humanity. If you decide to take a solo trip, it doesn’t have to fancy, it should just be somewhere you enjoy. Follow your heart and soul, and the rest will work out on its own. Safe travels!
