Mike’s Chicken: A Dallas Gem

Updated: Sep 21

A popular question to get asked is, “if you could eat any one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?” For the longest time, our indecisive selves could never come up with an answer because no matter how much we loved food, we could never imagine eating the same thing every single day. A few weeks ago, a co-worker dragged us to go grab lunch with them at a place called Mike’s Chicken, and when we questioned what it was, the look they gave us was pure disgust.

“You haven’t lived!” they said. They also said this would ruin chicken from anywhere else for us, so we were going in with high expectations. Upon arrival, the place was packed with people. The phone was constantly ringing and there was a mountain of to-go orders waiting to be picked up.

This place drops your chicken in the fryer when you order. Not 20 minutes before, right when you order. The first bite truly did ruin fried chicken everywhere else for us! It was perfectly crunchy and juicy, but what made it more delicious was their homemade seasoning and sauce. So if you can guess it, we’ve been back more than a dozen times. We have our answer and it is that we could eat Mike’s Chicken spicy chicken tenders EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.

Mike’s Chicken is not new to the press, having been featured on Dallas News and Dallas Observer. The restaurant brags an impressive near-perfect 5-star rating across all platforms, rightfully so. The owners are a Vietnamese couple who also own the small laundromat attached to Mike’s, and before they knew it, they had found their American dream in classic all American comfort food.

Have you tried Mike's Chicken? If so, what are your thoughts? If not, get to munchin' and let us know what you think over on Instagram at @thisisuproar.
