How to Take Your Instagram Game to the Next Level

Updated: Sep 21

Instagram, the land of picture-perfect feeds. If you’re anything like me you’ve come to terms with the fact that Instagram isn’t paying your bills (yet) so you don’t have enough time or energy to put that much effort into a #goals feed. So if you’re limited on time but you’re a sucker for a nice feed, stick around. These are a couple of easy fixes that will take your Insta game to the next level.

#1: Keep It Simple

You don’t need fancy photoshoots and photoshop to make your pictures pop. The edit tool on your phone is a great tool to use. Have a picture that’s too dark? Turn up the brightness. Have a photo that looks a little dull? Turn up the saturation. Did your picture turn out crooked? Tilt it a little and straighten it out. Although these changes might seem like they won't transform your feed, you'll be surprised at how these little fixes can make a big difference. It’s all about making the most of what you have!

#2: Look at the Big Picture:

Don’t be afraid to post about your surroundings, what you do, what you love. If you have a thing, make it YOUR thing. Post a snap of that book you’re reading, your shoes against some cool tile or that pastel sunset you saw on your way home. Sure, posts with faces are 38% more likely to get likes, but you have to look at the big picture. It’s all about balance. A picture of your favorite coffee or a layout of that new outfit you just bought will add variety to your feed and will make it more engaging. You’ve made your feed much more interesting and you didn’t even have to fix your hair. It's a win-win!

#3: Plan, Plan, Plan (life happens though):

You might be thinking “I don’t even know what I’m having for lunch today”. We’re totally there with you on that one so don’t worry, we’re not asking you to have your next three posts ready to go. You’re a person with a life and life is always changing but let us paint the picture for you. You’ve done the whole 'take 10840234 pictures and deleted all of them but two' thing.  You have two bomb photos but are stuck on which one should be the chosen one. Solution? See how each would integrate into your overall feed. Using an app like UNUM and Preview makes it super simple to upload your photos and see how they’ll look next to your previous photos. With these two apps, you'll be so much closer to crafting that perfect feed.

#4: Sksksk- and I oop

Say what you will about VSCO girls but they know a thing or two about consistent feeds. VSCO and tons of other apps out there have numerous filter options. You’re sure to find one that matches your personality! Having a filter is a very easy way to ensure that your pictures flow together. Bonus tip: based on the lighting and the colors in the photo, adjust the filter intensity. Some pictures may not even require a filter!

#5: Strike a Pose

Mixing up your feed is as simple as changing up your poses. We all have that signature pose that captures our best angle but it’s good to change it up once in a while. So get inspired! We recommend having a Pinterest board with pictures you like and trying to recreate the poses when you’re feeling stuck on how to pose. Who knows, you might find your next go-to pose.

#6: Have a Little More Time?

This one will require a little more time and preparation. You will have to be more conscious of your backgrounds but if you find yourself wearing the same colors it might be perfect for you! Having a color scheme is by far one of the best ways to develop a cohesive aesthetic. No time? No problem! Websites like myinstapalett.com analyze your feed and identify your color palette for you. To achieve unity at first glance, change your Instagram covers to your color scheme colors!

So there you have it! Those are just a few easy fixes that will take your Insta game to the next level. You may not have all the time in the world to create the perfect feed, but with these few simple tips, you can at least come pretty close.
