Fall Must-Haves To Start The Season Right

Updated: Sep 25, 2020

It's almost that time of year: Fall. Though it may still be 90 degrees outside in the South, it's never too soon to start celebrating the second most wonderful time of the year. The sooner you prepare, the longer the celebration, right? We like to think so.

Things are looking a little different this year due to 'Rona, but we're still preparing for the cool crisp air and seasonal activities just as we would any other year. If you're not sure what fall essentials you must have, we've got the perfect list. So, put on some Hocus Pocus, curl up on the couch, and brew some pumpkin spice coffee. We're about to dive into home decor, foods, fashion, and more in this list to kick off this spooky season.

1. Blankets

Blankets are useful at any time of the year but are essential for the fall weather. Go for a nice seasonal color like burgundy, beige, orange, or brown. Stick to patterns like plaid or knit as this will make your home feel cozy and warm.

If you want it for decoration then opt for a thin, aesthetic throw. If you want to use it more practically go for a softer, larger blanket for optimal comfort. Or get the best of both worlds with this blanket that's a mix of both comfort and fashion.

2. Candles

Is it really fall if your home doesn't smell like candy corn, fall leaves, or cinnamon spice? Nope. Candles are a great way to personalize your home through scent and sight. You can choose from hundreds of scents to get one that's perfect for you.

They also make great decor by themselves in a decorative holder or as an accent piece to your other decorations. Stores like Bath & Body Works and Yankee Candle are great stores to browse through and often have promotional deals, so be on the lookout.

3. Pumpkin Spice Coffee

Call us basic, but pumpkin spice is always a fall staple that doesn't seem to be fading away any time soon. You can make your own at home for the cool weekend mornings or buy one from your favorite coffee shop like Starbucks. The best part is that you can make these drinks cold or hot to satisfy all the coffee lovers. They even have vegan-friendly options.

Here is a recipe that we highly recommend.

4. Apple Cider

If coffee isn't your vibe you don't need to feel left out. Fall is all about fun, cozy drinks, and apple cider is another one that is a seasonal classic. Apple cider can be served both hot and cold and can be spiced up in various ways. You can find some pre-packaged at your local grocery store for a quick fix or it can be made at home as a fun fall activity.

Here is a fun twist on the classic, an apple cider float. For even more fun, you can also add alcohol for a spiked cider that will have you asking why you waited so long. We'll cheers to that!

5. Boots

Boots are a great go-to for the fall season for both girls and guys. They can be styled with various outfit types like pants, dresses, or skirts.

For girls, go for a classic black or brown ankle cut for a simple and stylish look or spice it up with a bolder thigh cut to make a statement. For guys, go for a warm colored pair of Chelsea boots or the simple black combat boot (some ladies love a bada** man). Regardless of your fashion taste, boots are the perfect way to dress up any look.

6. Beanies

Beanies are a great accessory that provides both comfort and style. They come in many colors and can be styled in a multitude of ways.

For the warmer days, go for a thinner, sleek style. For the colder days, grab one with thicker fabric to provide warmth. You can pick these up at just about any clothing store this season, but brands like Carhartt and Urban Outfitters are great places to start.

7. Seasonal Eyeshadow

Fall is the perfect time to express yourself through makeup. Look for palettes with warm tones that really showcase the aesthetic of fall. This could be simple browns, burnt oranges, faded yellows, and basic nudes. These shades are great for every day looks at night out festivities. Check out your local beauty store for options. Here's a perfect fall Morphe palette from Ulta.

8. Nail Polish

Similar to eyeshadow, 'tis the season to revamp your nail color. The 2020 trends for fall nails include earthy emeralds, sophisticated neutrals, ruby reds, and eye-catching metallics. We like to use the trick of finding your perfect nail polish match by finding one similar to the lipstick you wear.

With 3 months of fall ahead of us, there is more than enough time to try out each and every one of these colors. And if all else fails, hit up your local nail salon. Some of our favorite brands include O.P.I, Essie, and China Glaze.

9. Pumpkin Cinnamon Rolls

Cold fall mornings have nothing on this warm, tasty breakfast treat. These fluffy rolls are made from crescent dough and covered in cream cheese frosting. Whether store-bought or homemade, pumpkin cinnamon rolls are sure to make your home smell incredible and have people begging for more. It might just be your new fall tradition!

Try out our favorite recipe. These will only take 30 minutes to make and let us tell you...it's worth waiting every second. All the sweet carbs you could need in one beautiful roll - are you drooling yet?

10. Caramel Apple Spice Popcorn

An easy and tasty treat you can make for any holiday party or just to snack on at home. The caramel and apple spice complement each other so well you'll be wondering why you waited until September to make it. With only 3 ingredients and 15 minutes of cook time, this quick and affordable treat will bring the festivities to your kitchen.

11. Flannels

Oh, the days of being a hipster for a season is back with this fashion trend. Since layering and muted colors are the holy grail of fall, flannels give you everything you need to be comfortable, stylish, and add a pop of color to any outfit. You can wear it as an added layer or around your waist.

They're also very affordable and sustainable if you thrift shop for some vintage finds or take the convenience route and hit up stores like Old Navy or American Eagle for a more modern look.

12. Denim Jackets

Another option of layering is the classic denim jacket. It's a staple for the Fall and comes in a multitude of styles that can make a fancy outfit more laid back (simple denim jackets) or laid back outfits more stylish (denim jackets with fur or embellishments).

The same goes for this piece, you can find them pretty cheap if you go thrift hunting or you can pay a pretty penny at your local retailers. Here is our top pick for this season.

If denim isn't your thing, try looking for a Teddy Coat instead.

Remember folks: Fall is only here for 3 months, don't let it go to waste. Start buying these must-haves now and don't forget to tell your friends where you heard about it from *wink*.
