12 Albums to Align and Balance Your Chakras
Updated: Sep 17, 2020
We’ve all heard the saying that there is power in music, some even go as far as to say that music is healing. No matter what our beliefs, I think it is safe to say that we can all find comfort in music. Numerous scientific studies seem to confirm this theory as well; for example, scientists have found music may help to remove pain and anxiety in various contexts. It’s also been found that music helps relieve stress, improve memory, restore speech loss, allow for the learning of foreign languages, and even more.
Using sound and frequencies as a method of healing has been around for quite some time, it can be traced all the way back to 500 BC in India where the practice originated. This practice is known today as the chakra system. It is said that the health of one’s chakra is directly connected to their psychological, physical, and emotional well being. Each chakra can be activated using particular vibrations; meaning various musical notations and frequencies energize certain chakras. It is said that the vibrations associated with the chakras help to heal them by strengthening them from within - much like what we see with modern-day music therapy.
However, most chakra healing music doesn’t sound like what some would consider being music; it’s great for meditation but it’s not exactly fitting if you’ve just been passed the aux. Unless you have the time to sit down each morning and meditate or do a sound bath - finding time to recharge can be challenging.
As a result, I’ve compiled my top 12 albums which are said to contain healing frequencies. Some include a range of frequencies and others focus on a singular chakra. Even if you don’t believe in chakras these are still great albums that allow for reflection, self-love, and good vibes. Enjoy whenever and wherever you’d like.
What Are Chakras?
Chakras are the concentrated energy centers in our bodies in which the physical and the consciousness meet. With 7 major chakras active in all of us, each houses certain psychological, emotional, and spiritual states of being. It’s important that our chakras remain open and aligned; by doing so, you can achieve an ideal balance in life. There are many ways to balance chakras - sound and/or music therapy is just one of them. Each chakra has a specific frequency associated with it, allowing us to focus on specific ones to improve or heal ourselves from within. It's important to understand chakras as a whole before jumping into the healing process. With that being said, let’s take a closer look at each chakra and learn what each helps us do.
Types of Chakras
This list goes from the chakra found on the lowest point of the body (pelvic) to the highest point (top of head).
1. Root Chakra - 396 Hz
Muladhara, more commonly known as the root chakra, is responsible for grounding. It connects your energy to the earth and its role is to provide necessary means for survival. The root chakra is all about feelings of safety and security. Music and sounds with this frequency are said to help release feelings of guilt and fear and enable the achievement of goals.
2. Sacral Chakra - 417 Hz
The sacral chakra, also called Svadhishana, translates to “the place of the self;” hence, it focuses on one’s identity and sense of self. It is responsible for bringing creative energy and motivation - it produces energy to bring about change in one’s life. It is your strongest connection to the outside world, and it influences and enriches your experiences.
Frequencies of 417 Hz help to clear toxic influences and get in touch with our own emotions and the emotions of others.
3. Solar Plexus Chakra - 528 Hz
The solar plexus chakra, or Manipura, has a frequency of 528 Hz and is tied to transformation. The solar plexus chakra rules over our self-esteem and emotional stability. It helps to restore and build confidence which in turn, helps one take control of their own life. It is often referred to as the chakra for personal power and is known for bringing transformation and even miracles into one’s life.
Its frequency of 528Hz activates your wisdom, intuition, and courage.
4. Heart Chakra - 639 Hz
Anahata, better known as the heart chakra deals with all types of relationships. Its frequency of 639 Hz encourages open communication and expression of emotions. As one can infer, it also deals with love and compassion, and when the heart chakra is balanced it allows for the free flow of love - both giving and receiving. It is the chakra that grants inner peace. It is also the chakra that connects other chakras that are above and below it.
5. Throat Chakra - 741 Hz
Vishuddha, or the throat chakra, is exactly what it sounds like. This chakra revolves entirely around communication. It helps us express our emotions and speak our truth. Healing this chakra leads to the power of self-expression, resulting in a more pure and stable life. Those who have this balanced chakra are able to speak with unconditional love, compassion, empathy, and truth.
Its frequency of 741 Hz is used to solve and cleanse.
6. Third Eye Chakra - 852 Hz
With a frequency of 852 Hz, the third eye chakra, or Ajna, is linked to one’s intuition. It helps you raise your awareness to help you sense hidden agendas, toxic people and energy, and return to spiritual order. It deals with your perception, memory, wisdom, imagination, and decision making. Tapping into your third eye chakra helps individuals to understand the deeper meaning of our experiences and challenges - helping us become more insightful and find guidance within ourselves.
7. Crown Chakra - 963 Hz
The crown chakra, or Sahasrara, focuses on all things spiritual. It is said to help reconnect one to the “Light” or God and helps to enable direct experiences. It is known as the meeting point between your physical self, your consciousness, and your higher self. This chakra helps people overcome materialism and develop their spiritual clarity.
